Young KVODS was re-formed in 2008 and is young people aged 8 – 16 years.  They perform one full scale musical a year at a purpose built theatre in the local area.  So far they have peformed to our local residents, patrons and members at a Christmas concert, have performed Guys & Dolls Jr & Disco Inferno.

Rehearsals take place on Monday & Wednesday evenings from 6.30pm to 7.45pm at Kingston Vale Village Hall, SW15 3RN. Monday evenings are usually for principals with Wednesdays being chorus rehearsals. There are also some Sunday rehearsals nearer show week.

In 2009 the group were selected to perform at the Leatherhead Drama Festival at Leatherhead Theatre where they received nominations for ‘Outstanding Contribution to the Festival’. Richard Roberts, the author of the play they performed was nominated for ‘best new script’ and 3 of the performers got special mentions in the best actor / actress categories.

They were then selected to perform again at the Woking Drama Festival at the Rhoda McGaw Theatre in October.

The group received fantastic comments from the adjudicator and he selected them to perform the play again at the awards evening, one of only 2 plays re-selected.

The group went on to win best youth play, our wardrobe mistress won the adjudicator’s award for the fantastic costumes and we also received nominations in 4 other categories – best director, best sound, techincal excellence and best youth performer.

In July 2010 they will perform Annie Jr and the first meeting for this will take place in February 2010. We have now reached our full capacity for this show so new enquiries will be added to our waiting list.

To become a member of the group each child has to complete a short singing & reading audition. We ask that the auditionee prepares a song of their choice so they can sing a verse & a chorus acapella. We will then give them a short piece of dialogue to read.

Membership costs £10 per year and entitles the member to audition for principal roles in shows, receive newsletters and receive invites to appropriate social events.

There is also a production fee for each show. This amount is dependent on show and venue but is in the region of £60.

All parents are given a copy of our child protection policy, the behaviour policy and an authorisation form.

Each child is expected to have a pair of black jazz shoes (not trainers or boots). These will be used in every show and we request that they are worn during dance rehearsals.

The children are also expected to buy a Young KVODS polo shirt, in a colour of their choice.

During show week all children are looked after in the dressing rooms by fully licensed chaperones & all adults working with the children have been checked by CRB.

Any enquiries regarding membership should be sent via email to secretary(a)kvods.com
