A short history on the origins of Kingston Vale Operatic & Dramatic Society…

Founded in January 1943 by a group of Kingston Vale residents the Kingston Vale Operatic Society put on its first show – the old Gilbert & Sullivan favourite Trial by Jury – in the Kingston Vale Village Hall. It wasn’t until 1947 that the dramatic element entered and the Society adopted its present name.

Over the years KVODS has performed at many venues ranging from Battersea and Poplar Town Halls to the Surbiton Assembly Rooms.

In 1978 the decision was made to take a lease on the Village Hall. Since that time we have, through a series of five year leases continued our occupation of the Hall. Around 2000 switched to being regular tennants at the hall, and continue to rehearse and perform there to this day. We consider ourselves very fortunate indeed to have a place which we all feel is “home”. To be able to rehearse, build and paint scenery and perform all in the same venue is a luxury few Societies can enjoy.

Ours is a friendly Society and, if you feel like joining, please drop us a line.
